Landscape

La Axarquia offers the traveller an image difficult to forget.

The landscape and the idiosyncracies of this land are not uniform but unfold a diversity which constitutes one of its major enchantments. From Rincon de la Victoria to Nerja we find a delightful coastal strip sprinkled with solitary coves, cliffs and sun. One is talking of an area which is ideal for sports such as windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, underwater swimming or golf.

Towards the interior of the region the landscape begins to change. The green of the terraces contrasts with the white of the villages raised up on beautiful hilltops. Lakes, rivers, resevoirs, wheat fields, raisins drying, almond and olive trees all conspire to give the impression that we have been transported to another country and, finally the high mountains of Tejeda and Almijara where, outlined against their white crests, the Mudejar style arab towers take us back to other times with villages of old and unusual outlines.
