Cuenca

Cuenca

The territory of La Alcarria is located in the north of the province of Cuenca. It extends for 2,500 square km and is home to about 12,000 inhabitants who live in just over 50 population hubs in about 40 municipalities.

Local gastronomy also offers welcome surprises to all those who visit. Sheep herding, traditional in the area, has made the delicious local lamb famous. In Caracenilla and Huete it is possible to try “cordero a la miel” (lamb with honey), a dish made with denominación de origen (top-quality, locally-made) honey from the Alcarria towns of Huelves, Torralba and Buendía.
There is an important civil, military and religious heritage in this area, scattered throughout its various villages.
